About Us
Hem Chandra Dev Goswami (H.C.D.G.) College is situated at Nitaipukhuri under Sivasagar District of Upper Assam. The HCDG College is a provincialised institution affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Assam. The college was established in 1965. It was brought under Grant-in-Aid scheme on 1st July 1977. Finally in September 1998 the college got registered under 2(f) and 12(b) clause of University Grant Commission. In 2003, the college also got the permanent affiliation of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati.

The College has been making continuous efforts to face the new challenges in the field of higher education and achieve excellence in the changed scenario of higher education.

Vision
The College was established with the basic aim of providing an opportunity to pursue higher education to the inhabitants of this remote and backward area so that the youth of this area can compete and establish themselves as able citizens of this country.

Mission
H.C.D.G. College as a rural centre of higher education aims at:
a) To imbibe a sense of self-belief among students to shape themselves as individuals contributing to the well being and progress of the society.
b) To inculcate in them a sense of belonging to the country and thereby spread the message of national integration.
c) To develop their personality so that they can find themselves fit to compete with others in the struggle of life.
d) To innovate and achieve excellence in teaching- learning/pedagogy, training and research extension activities, to realize regional needs from the perspective of national goals.
e) To facilitate optimum use of human and natural resources for sustainable development, and to involve all the stakeholders of the institution in the development of the college and the region.
f) To ensure inclusive growth.
g) To ensure the knowledge output for human development.
h) To disseminate literacy, technology and other such knowledge to the society through outreach programme.

Campus
The college functions from its campus at Nitaipukhuri. The campus has an Administrative Building, Classrooms, separate Departmental Teachers’ Common Room (three), Central Library, Girls’ Hostel, Conference Hall and Canteen.All the buildings of the college have internet connection and provision for uninterrupted power supply. Digital Classrooms fitted with modern e-boards and audio-visual system for smooth and effective conduct of teaching/learning process.

Brief History of the College
Set in the sylvan surrounding of expansive paddy fields, Nitaipukhuri, historically an important place of Assam, offers a great visual treat of natural beauty. The Dehing River flows quietly to the south and to the north there is the National Highway-37, connecting it with all major towns of Assam. Nitaipukhuri is the nerve centre of fifty six smaller villages that dot the landscape around it.

Ever since 1960 the need of a college was felt by the conscious masses of this area who wanted to shape the future of the younger generation by providing them an opportunity to pursue higher education without having to travel far and spending an unaffordable amount. In 1965 a managing committee was constituted consisting of a few educationist of this area like late Tarun Gogoi, Sri Kukheswar Gogoi, first President and Secretary respectively. Under their able stewardship the college was established and regular academic session commenced in July 1965. The Managing Committee and everybody associated with it worked tirelessly and selflessly to give to this nascent institution. Lt. Mina Dutta became the next Secretary of this Managing Committee and Continued the effort of taking this institution a step forward. It was during his secretaryship the college continued its mission of catering to the educational needs of the students of this backward area inhabited by many ethnic groups. The college was brought under Grant-in-Aid Scheme on 1st July 1977. Finally in September 1998 the college got registered under 2 (f) and 12 (b) clause of University Grants Commission. In 2003 the college also got the permanent affiliation for the Assam Higher Secondary Education Coucil, Guwahati. At present the college is permanently affiliated to the Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam.

The college has been adopting itself to face the new challenges in the field of higher education and continues to strive to excel in the changed educational scenario.
