Hem Chandra Dev Goswami College was established in 1965 with the basic aim of providing higher education to the students of nearby areas by a few educationist and social workers. The conscious people of Nitaipukhuri and panidhing felt before fifty years the need of a higher institution to shape and mould the future of the younger generation by providing them an opportunity to pursue higher education in this under unprivileged area and they succeeded in turning their dream into a reality..
In 1965 a managing committee was formed comprising a few educationist of this area like late Tarun Gogoi, Sri Kusheswar Gogoi, as the first president and secretary respectively. Because of their constant endeavour first regular academic session of the college commenced in July, 1965. The college was brought under Grants-in-Aid Scheme on July 1, 1977. Finally in 1998 the college got registered under 2(f) and 12(b) clause of University Grants Commission. At present the college is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam.
In this rapidly growing global world every college or university has to cope up with the challenges of time. Globalization offers new challenges also opportunities for us. We have to change the existing system, structure, management and teaching learning technology. With limited scope and man power this institution has to strive hard to develop itself in the changing educational scenario of present era.
